How to enjoy it

  • Neat
  • With water

Start neat to enjoy the oily texture and sherry sweetness; a few drops of water bring out the fruit. At 40% it is easy-going and holds up well on the rocks.

Food pairing

Dried fruit, nuts and fruitcake. Also good with roast pork or dark chocolate.

Background & production

Made at Midleton Distillery in County Cork. It is a single pot still whiskey — the traditional Irish style, made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and triple distilled in copper pot stills.

The whiskey is aged for at least 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish oak casks seasoned with oloroso sherry. A strong contribution from the sherry casks gives the trademark "Christmas cake" character.

It is described as the best-selling single pot still Irish whiskey in the world, and a classic introduction to the category.
