Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured

★★★★★★★★★★No ratings yet

Aberlour's 16 Year Old, marrying whisky from sherry butts and first-fill bourbon casks. Cherry-like fruit, spice and a dark-chocolate finish give it more depth than the 12.

How to enjoy it

  • Neat
  • With water
  • On the rocks

Neat lets you taste how the sherry fruit and bourbon-cask sweetness overlap. A few drops of water lift the aromas. At 40% it is soft on the palate and also good on the rocks.

Food pairing

Chocolate, dried fruit, and roast duck or pork.

Background & production

A single malt from the distillery founded in 1879 in the Speyside village of Aberlour. It now belongs to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, and is also known for its sherry-matured A'bunadh.

'Double Cask' means combining spirit matured in traditional oak sherry casks with spirit from first-fill bourbon casks — the same idea as the 12 Year Old, using older whisky.

The 16 Year Old is bottled at 40% ABV.
