Background & production

The brand traces back to 1791, when Dublin innkeeper James Power set up a small distillery at his pub. Today it is produced by Pernod Ricard's Irish Distillers at Midleton Distillery in County Cork.

Gold Label is a triple-distilled blend with a high share of pot still whiskey — around 70% — combined with grain whiskey. Historically it was a single pot still whiskey.

It was formerly bottled at 40%, and the strength was raised to 43.2% to emphasise its spicy character.
