How to enjoy it
- Highball
- Neat
- With water
Surprisingly refreshing in a highball, which makes a good introduction. Once hooked, try it neat or with water to find the sweetness behind the smoke.
Food pairing
Oysters, smoked cheese or fish, and blue cheese.
Background & production
Made at Laphroaig, founded in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston on Islay's south-east coast.
It is one of the few Scottish distilleries with its own floor maltings. Barley is cold-smoked over peat fires as it dries, giving the distinctive medicinal smokiness.
It received a Royal Warrant from the then Prince Charles, renewed under King Charles III. The 10 Year Old is the core expression, bottled at 40%.
