Background & production
Made at Laphroaig on Islay. After maturing in American oak, it is moved into small "quarter casks" of about 125 litres — roughly a quarter the size of a sherry butt — for further ageing. The greater contact between spirit and wood adds depth and structure quickly.
Quarter casks were used in the 19th century, said to be easy for two men to load onto a pack horse. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 48%.
