History & character

In Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula. Campbeltown once had more than 30 distilleries, and Springbank is one of the few survivors. Founded in 1828, it has been owned by the Mitchell family since 1872 and is still run by the family firm J&A Mitchell.

It malts 100% of its barley on traditional floors and is said to be the only Scottish distillery to carry out every step through to bottling in-house.

It makes three brands by varying distillation and peat: Springbank (2.5 times distilled, medium peated), Longrow (double distilled, heavily peated) and Hazelburn (triple distilled, unpeated). It closed in 1979 and reopened in 1989.
