Glengyle
Scotland / Campbeltown · Founded 1872
A Campbeltown distillery revived after nearly 80 years. Its single malt is sold as Kilkerran, after the old name for Campbeltown.
History & character
Located in Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula. William Mitchell founded the distillery in 1872, and it closed in 1925.
Hedley Wright — owner of Springbank and a descendant of Mitchell — bought the buildings in 2000, restored them and restarted distillation in 2004.
Because the Glengyle trademark had passed to another company, the single malt is sold as Kilkerran, the old name for Campbeltown.
