Four Roses Distillery
USA / Kentucky
A distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, known for its Spanish Mission-style buildings and ten bourbon recipes made from two mashbills and five yeasts.
History & character
The brand credits Paul Jones Jr. as its founder and was trademarked in 1888. The distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, built in 1910 in the Spanish Mission style, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Old Prentice Distillery.
Seagram bought the brand in 1943 and later stopped selling Four Roses straight bourbon in the US, focusing it on export markets. Kirin acquired it in 2002 and refocused the brand on straight bourbon.
It uses two mashbills and five proprietary yeast strains to make ten distinct bourbons, which are blended for its standard bottlings or bottled individually as single barrels. Ageing warehouses and bottling are at Cox's Creek, Kentucky.
