How to enjoy it

  • Neat
  • With water
  • Highball

Neat is the best way to see how the fruit and smoke interweave; water brings the malty sweetness forward. As a highball, the light smoke becomes a pleasant accent.

Food pairing

Roast duck, smoked cheese or a fruit cake studded with dried fruit.

Background & production

The core expression of Benromach, near Forres in Speyside. The distillery closed in 1983, was bought by the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail in 1993, and returned to production in 1998.

With just one wash still and one spirit still, it is a small, hands-on operation. Its malt is lightly peated with Highland peat, giving a gentle smokiness that is unusual for Speyside.

The 10 Year Old is built mainly on whisky from first-fill bourbon casks, combined with first-fill sherry cask whisky, then finished for its final year in Oloroso sherry hogsheads. It is bottled at 43% ABV.
