Benromach

Scotland / Speyside · Founded 1898

A small distillery near Forres in Speyside, owned by the bottler Gordon & MacPhail and making a lightly peated, traditional style of spirit.

History & character

Founded in 1898 near Forres in Speyside. After several changes of ownership it closed in 1983, but was bought by the long-established bottler Gordon & MacPhail in 1993, refurbished and reopened in 1998.

It is a small, hands-on distillery with one wash still and one spirit still. Its water comes from springs in the Romach Hills.

Its malt is lightly peated with Highland peat, giving a gentle smokiness that is unusual for Speyside.
