Talisker

Scotland / Islands (Isle of Skye) · Founded 1830

The long-established distillery on the Isle of Skye, known for briny, smoky, peppery whisky.

History & character

On the shore of Loch Harport at Carbost on the Isle of Skye. Founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, it passed into company ownership in 1898 and is now owned by Diageo.

It has an unusual configuration of two wash stills and three spirit stills. After a fire destroyed the still house in 1960, the stills were rebuilt as exact replicas to preserve the house style.

Its spirit, made from peated malt, is known for smoke combined with coastal salinity and peppery spice.
