The GlenDronach

Scotland / Highlands · Founded 1826

A Highland distillery near Forgue in Aberdeenshire, known for rich maturation in Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry casks.

History & character

Founded in 1826 by James Allardes near Forgue, by Huntly in Aberdeenshire. The name comes from the Gaelic for 'valley of the brambles'.

Ownership changed many times: William Teacher & Sons bought it in 1960 and Allied Domecq in 1976. It was mothballed in 1996 and restarted in 2002, then passed through Chivas Brothers and the BenRiach Distillery Company before Brown-Forman bought it in 2016.

With two wash stills and two spirit stills, it is best known for a core range matured in ex-sherry casks, especially oloroso and Pedro Ximénez.
