Glengoyne

Scotland / Highlands · Founded 1833

A distillery sitting right on the Highland Line, known for mellow malt made from unpeated, air-dried barley and slow distillation.

History & character

At the foot of Dumgoyne hill, north of Glasgow. It was founded in 1833 by the Edmonstone family under the name Burnfoot.

The Highland Line — the boundary between the Highland and Lowland whisky regions — follows the road that runs through the site: the distillery sits on the Highland side, its warehouses on the Lowland side.

Lang Brothers bought it in 1876 and renamed it Glenguin; it became Glengoyne in 1905. Ian Macleod Distillers bought it in 2003.
