How to enjoy it
- Neat
- With water
Start neat to taste how the PX sweetness and peat intertwine. A few drops of water open up the sweeter aromas. It is rich, so a small pour sipped slowly works best.
Food pairing
Dark chocolate, blue cheese and dried fruit. Also works on its own in place of dessert.
Background & production
A single malt from Lagavulin on the south coast of Islay. The distillery's core bottling is the 16 Year Old, and its house style is defined by powerful smoke from peated malt.
Diageo launched the Distillers Edition series in 1997 as an extension of its Classic Malts range, giving each malt a second, 'double matured' period in a different cask. For Lagavulin, that means casks that held sweet Pedro Ximénez sherry.
It is released each year with both distillation and bottling years on the label, and bottled at 43% ABV.
