How to enjoy it
- Neat
- With water
- Highball
Take it neat to enjoy how smoke and sherry sweetness overlap; a few drops of water bring out the fruit. As a highball, dried-fruit sweetness shows behind the smoke.
Food pairing
Smoked meats, bacon, blue cheese or dark chocolate — bold flavours that can stand up to the smoke.
Background & production
A single malt from Kilchoman, the farm distillery in north-west Islay. Founded in 2005, the family-run distillery handles everything from malting to bottling on the island.
Sanaig is named after an inlet on Islay's Atlantic coast. Part of the core range alongside Machir Bay since 2014, it is a vatting of roughly 70% Oloroso sherry cask and 30% bourbon barrel matured spirit.
Made from barley peated to 50ppm, it is a heavily peated Islay malt, bottled without an age statement at 46% ABV.
