How to enjoy it

  • Neat
  • With water

Sip it slowly neat to appreciate the complexity of long ageing. A little water lets the smoke emerge gently from behind the fruit and chocolate.

Food pairing

Dark chocolate, dried fruit and blue cheese — or simply as an after-dinner dram.

Background & production

Made at Bowmore, founded in 1779 on the shore of Loch Indaal in the village of Bowmore on Islay. It is regarded as Islay's oldest working distillery and has been part of Suntory since 1994.

The 18 Year Old marries whiskies aged for 18 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak Oloroso sherry casks. Its appeal lies in the balance between rich sherry-cask sweetness and Bowmore's gentle smoke.

It is bottled at 43% ABV.
