Background & production
From Glenfarclas at Ballindalloch, at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside. Owned and run by the Grant family since 1865, the distillery is known for sherry-cask malts.
In 1968 fourth-generation chairman George S. Grant bottled a cask at natural strength as a Christmas gift for family and friends. The cask measured 105° British proof — 60% ABV — which gave the whisky its name. It proved so popular that it became a permanent bottling, and it is regarded as a pioneer of official cask-strength Scotch.
Matured in European oak sherry casks, it carries no age statement and is bottled at 60% ABV.
