Glenfarclas
Scotland / Speyside · Founded 1836
A family-run Speyside distillery, owned by the Grant family since 1865 and known for robust, sherry-matured malts.
History & character
Glenfarclas sits near Ballindalloch in Speyside. It was first licensed in 1836, when Robert Hay ran it, and on 8 June 1865 it was bought by John Grant. His descendants still own and run it, making it one of the few truly family-owned distilleries left in Scotland.
Its six stills are the largest on Speyside and are heated directly by gas burners rather than steam.
The distillery is best known for single malts matured in sherry casks, with a range that runs from 10 years old to much older bottlings.
