Background & production

Made at Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, Speyside. Founded in 1823, it is now owned by Diageo.

Spirit is made with the '2.81' distillation regime, travelling along different paths through three wash stills and three spirit stills to create a rich, robust character. 'The Wee Witchie' is the nickname of the distillery's smallest — yet most essential — still.

The 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of European oak ex-sherry casks and American oak ex-bourbon casks, and bottled at 43.4% ABV.
