At 46% and non-chill filtered, it has real weight even neat. A splash of water opens the fruit, while ice rounds out the sherry-cask sweetness.

Background & production

Made at GlenAllachie Distillery, built in 1967 near Aberlour at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside. Long a supplier of malt for blends, it was bought in 2017 by a team led by former BenRiach managing director Billy Walker, who began building its own single malt range.

The 12 Year Old, released in 2018, is the heart of the core range. It combines whisky matured in first-fill bourbon casks, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and a small proportion of virgin oak.

It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and with natural colour.
