How to enjoy it

  • Neat
  • With water
  • On the rocks

Best sipped slowly neat. A little water brings out vanilla and dried-fruit sweetness; on the rocks the sweetness becomes crisper.

Food pairing

Sweet, rich foods: dried fruit and nuts, caramel desserts or roast pork.

Background & production

Made at The Macallan distillery near Craigellachie in Speyside. Founded in 1824, it is known for its "curiously small stills" and maturation in sherry casks, and has been owned by Edrington since 1999.

The Double Cask range combines whisky from sherry-seasoned American oak and European oak casks: the American oak brings soft vanilla sweetness, the European oak subtle spice.

The 15 Years Old follows the 12 in the range and is bottled at 43% ABV.
