GlenAllachie
Scotland / Speyside · Founded 1967
A Speyside distillery near Aberlour at the foot of Ben Rinnes. Bought in 2017 by a team led by Billy Walker, it has built a reputation for richly cask-driven single malts.
History & character
GlenAllachie sits near Aberlour in Speyside, at the foot of Ben Rinnes. It was built in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson, to a design by William Delmé-Evans.
It was mothballed under Invergordon Distillers in the late 1980s, restarted by Campbell Distillers in 1989, and for decades mainly supplied malt for blends. In July 2017 Chivas Brothers sold it to former BenRiach managing director Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson, who formed The GlenAllachie Distillers Co.
The distillery has two wash stills and two spirit stills. Under its new owners, production has been reduced and fermentation times lengthened, and its own-label single malts have won wide acclaim.
