  • Highball

At 46.3% it rewards sipping neat and then adding a little water, which releases honey and citrus. It keeps its malty character well in a highball too.

Food pairing

Roast pork, cheese drizzled with honey, or oat biscuits.

Background & production

The core expression of Deanston, on the banks of the River Teith in the southern Highlands. The distillery occupies a cotton mill built in 1785, which was converted into a distillery in 1966. An on-site hydro-electric plant makes it self-sufficient in electricity.

The 12 Year Old is made from unpeated Scottish barley and matured in ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at 46.3% without chill-filtration or added colour, to keep its flavour compounds intact.

Malty cereal layered with honey, citrus and a waxy texture is regarded as the distillery's house style.
