Deanston
Scotland / Highlands · Founded 1966
A distillery on the River Teith in the southern Highlands, housed in an 18th-century cotton mill and self-sufficient in electricity through hydro power.
History & character
On the banks of the River Teith, about eight miles from Stirling. A cotton mill built in 1785 was converted into a distillery in 1966, with production starting in 1967.
An on-site hydro-electric plant makes it self-sufficient in electricity, which is rare in Scotland. A vaulted former weaving shed from 1834 is used as a warehouse, and it has made organic whisky since 2000.
It is owned today by CVH Spirits. Its spirit is known for malty cereal with honey and citrus and a waxy texture.
