Aberlour

Scotland / Speyside · Founded 1879

A Speyside distillery where the Lour Burn meets the River Spey, known for sherry-influenced malts and the cask-strength A'bunadh.

History & character

Founded by James Fleming in 1879 in the village of Aberlour, at the confluence of the Lour Burn and the River Spey near Ben Rinnes. Distilling began in December 1880.

Campbell Distilleries bought it in 1975, and it is now part of Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky arm of Pernod Ricard.

It runs two wash stills and two spirit stills. Besides aged expressions such as the 12 Year Old, it is known for A'bunadh, a cask-strength, no-age-statement whisky matured in sherry casks.
