History & character
At Aberfeldy in Perthshire, on the south bank of the upper River Tay. John Dewar & Sons began building it in 1896 and production started in 1898. It was closed during both World Wars because of barley shortages.
Its water comes from the Pitilie Burn, which runs beside the distillery. It has two wash stills and two spirit stills and is run today by Dewar's, part of Bacardi.
Its malt is the heart of Dewar's blended whiskies, and in 2000 it opened the Dewar's World of Whisky visitor centre.
