Background & production
Made at Scapa distillery, on the shore of Scapa Flow near Kirkwall on Orkney's Mainland. Founded in 1885, it is now owned by Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard.
Because the malt is not dried over peat, Scapa is far less smoky than most island whiskies and known for its honeyed sweetness.
Skiren, a no-age-statement core expression launched in 2015, takes its name from an Old Norse word for "bright". It is matured exclusively in first-fill American oak casks and bottled at 40% ABV.
