Tasting notes

- Cream toffee, raisins and ripe fruit, with a touch of vanilla.
- Palate
- Light and rounded, with fruity sweetness balanced by a pleasant dryness.

- Tropical fruit, raisins and vanilla linger gently.

How to enjoy it
- Neat
- On the rocks
- Highball
Despite the 46% strength it drinks lightly, so start neat to enjoy the fruit. On ice the sweetness tightens up, and as a highball the Madeira fruitiness comes through fresh and bright.
Food pairing
Fruit cake and other baked goods with dried fruit, aged cheeses, or sweet-salty starters like prosciutto and melon.
Background & production
Made at the Penderyn distillery in the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales. Welsh whisky-making had died out in 1894; Penderyn, launched as a business in 2000, went on sale in 2004 as the first Welsh whisky in over a century.
It is distilled in the Faraday still, a single copper pot still designed by Dr David Faraday.
Madeira is the original Penderyn house style: matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in ex-Madeira wine casks. It is bottled at 46% without chill filtration.
