Penderyn
Wales · Founded 2000
The distillery in Wales's Brecon Beacons National Park that revived Welsh whisky after more than a century.
History & character
Located in the village of Penderyn in the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales. The business was launched in 2000 as the Welsh Whisky Company. Whisky had once been distilled in Wales, but production stopped in 1894; when Penderyn went on sale in 2004 it was the first Welsh whisky in over a century.
Its signature is the Faraday still, a single copper pot still designed by Dr David Faraday, a descendant of the Victorian scientist Michael Faraday, which produces a light, high-strength spirit.
The company has since expanded to two more sites — Llandudno in North Wales (2021) and the Swansea Copperworks (2023).
