At 48% the smoke and body hold up well in a highball. Neat or on the rocks, the weighty Yoichi character takes centre stage.
Food pairing
Yakiniku, Genghis Khan lamb barbecue, smoked foods and charcoal-grilled dishes.
Background & production
Created for Nikka's 90th anniversary to carry on the pioneering spirit of founder Masataka Taketsuru, and launched in Japan in October 2024.
Its key malt is heavily peated Yoichi, giving a weighty, smoky character from coal-fired direct distillation and peat. Malt makes up more than 51% of the blend.
It is non-chill filtered to retain flavour and bottled at 48% in 500ml bottles. Exports to South Korea, France, Taiwan and Hong Kong began in 2026.
