How to enjoy it

Without rye, spice is restrained — enjoy its gentle sweetness on the rocks or in a highball. Also an easy cocktail base.

Food pairing

Teriyaki chicken, spare ribs and apple pie.

Background & production

A small-batch bourbon made in Loretto, Kentucky. In October 1953 Bill Samuels Sr. bought the Burks' Distillery in Loretto; production began in 1954, and the first bottles were sealed in red wax in 1958.

Where most bourbons use rye, it uses corn (about 70%) and red winter wheat (about 16%) instead, for a softer sweetness.

Each squarish bottle is hand-dipped in red wax. Bottled at 45%.
