How to enjoy it

  • On the rocks
  • Neat
  • Highball

With more oak than standard Maker's Mark, it is worth tasting on the rocks or neat to appreciate the difference. The toasty notes also hold up well in a highball.

Food pairing

Steak, roast beef or teriyaki — meat dishes with sweet-savoury glazes or a charred edge.

Background & production

Made at the Maker's Mark distillery in Kentucky, it was the distillery's first ever new product.

The idea came from cooper Brad Boswell. Fully matured Maker's Mark is taken out of its barrel, which is fitted with seared French white oak staves inside, then returned for a further two to three months. The "46" was the number given to the stave-searing profile during trials.

It is bottled at 47% ABV (94 proof).
