Background & production
J&B traces its history to 1749, when Giacomo Justerini and George Johnson set up as wine merchants in London. In 1831 Alfred Brooks bought the business and renamed it Justerini & Brooks.
J&B Rare was created in the 1930s to suit American tastes and launched as Prohibition ended in 1933. Now owned by Diageo, it is one of the world's best-selling blended Scotches and is especially popular in southern Europe.
The blend uses more than 40 whiskies, with Speyside malts such as Knockando and Auchroisk at its core. It carries no age statement and is bottled at 40% ABV.
