Background & production
Created on 23 March 1923 by Berry Bros. & Rudd, the historic London wine merchants, and named after the famous clipper ship Cutty Sark, which had recently docked in London. It was made with American drinkers of the Prohibition era in mind, and cases made their way into the US that same year.
It blends grain whisky with more than 30 single malts, mainly from Speyside. Launched as cocktail culture was taking off in the 1920s, it is regarded as the first light-coloured blended Scotch, known for its delicate, soft flavours.
Now produced by La Martiniquaise and bottled at 40% ABV.
