How to enjoy it
- On the rocks
- Highball
- Cocktails
Stronger and richer than standard Crown Royal, it rewards slow sipping on the rocks. The sweet aromas survive in a highball, and it works well in an Old Fashioned.
Food pairing
Maple bacon, spare ribs, nuts, and caramel desserts.
Background & production
A variation of Crown Royal, the Canadian whisky created in 1939 for the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada, and now owned by Diageo.
Crown Royal Black was introduced in 2010. Whiskies matured in charred oak barrels are blended at 45% rather than the standard 40%, giving a darker colour, richer texture and bolder finish. It comes in a black felt-style bag.
