Background & production

Introduced in 1984 by master distiller Elmer T. Lee at what is now Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky (then the George T. Stagg Distillery). It is regarded as the first modern bourbon brand marketed as a single barrel bourbon — whiskey bottled from one barrel only.

It honours Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who used to pick exceptional "honey barrels" from the centre of Warehouse H and have them bottled one barrel at a time. The whiskey is aged in new charred oak in Warehouse H.

The Original is bottled at 46.5% ABV (93 proof).
