History & character
The King Car group's distillery in Yuanshan Township, Yilan County, north-east Taiwan. Established in 2005, it distilled its first spirit in March 2006 and released its first product, Kavalan Classic, in December 2008.
In the hot, humid subtropical climate, its warehouses are not temperature-controlled, so maturation is rapid, producing a tropical-fruit character.
It made headlines in 2010 by beating three Scotch whiskies in a blind tasting in Scotland, and in 2015 its Solist Vinho Barrique was named World's Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards.
