Auchentoshan

Scotland / Lowlands · Founded 1823

A Lowland distillery at Clydebank near Glasgow, known as the only Scottish distillery to triple-distil all of its spirit.

History & character

At Dalmuir in Clydebank, northwest of Glasgow, overlooking the River Clyde. It was founded in 1823 by John Bulloch.

While almost all Scottish distilleries distil twice, Auchentoshan is regarded as the only one to triple-distil all of its spirit as a matter of course — a practice more common in Ireland — giving a light, smooth spirit.

It has changed hands several times. Morrison Bowmore took control in 1984, and that company came under Suntory in 1994.
