Background & production
Tom Bulleit began making his bourbon in 1987, drawing on a recipe linked to his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit in the 1830s. The brand is now owned by Diageo, which opened a Bulleit distillery near Shelbyville, Kentucky, in 2017.
The mashbill is 68% corn, 28% rye and 4% malted barley — a high rye content for bourbon, which gives its spicy, dry character.
It is bottled at 45% (90 proof).
