Tasting notes
- Nose
- Unusually dry peat and worn leather, with a hint of citrus and caramel.
- Palate
- Molasses-like sweetness at first, turning drier and spicier as the peat builds.
- Finish
- Butterscotch, vanilla and clean smoky phenols.
* Editorial tasting notes.
How to enjoy it
- Neat
- With water
- On the rocks
Sip it neat to follow the shift from sweetness to peat. A few drops of water lift the citrus, and it keeps its sweetness on the rocks.
Food pairing
Tandoori chicken, spiced grilled dishes or smoked cheese.
Background & production
A single malt from Amrut Distilleries in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), southern India — the producer that launched India's first single malt in 2004.
Amrut Peated uses barley peated and malted in Scotland, distilled at around 3,000 feet in Bengaluru and matured in new and used American oak. The tropical climate means maturation proceeds faster than in Scotland.
It carries no age statement and is bottled at 46% ABV. It has been highly rated abroad, including 94 points in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible.
