Background & production
Tullamore D.E.W. blends three types of Irish whiskey — grain, malt and pot still — all triple distilled. The grain brings sweetness, the malt fruit and the pot still spice.
It is aged over several years in refill casks, ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry butts; the makers call it "triple distilled, triple blend, triple matured".
The name combines the town of Tullamore with the initials of Daniel E. Williams, a former manager of the distillery. The brand is now owned by Scotland's William Grant & Sons, which opened a new distillery in Tullamore, County Offaly, in 2014.
