Smooth and easy-going, it shines in a highball or with ginger ale. It is also easy on the rocks and a handy cocktail base.

Pancakes, bacon or barbecue chicken — dishes with maple or sweet-savoury flavours.

Background & production

It was first made in 1939 as a gift for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth's state tour of Canada. The crown-shaped bottle and the label's crown on a blue cushion recall that royal presentation.

It is made at a distillery in Gimli, Manitoba, on the shore of Lake Winnipeg, by blending many whiskies distilled from rye, corn and barley.

Now owned by Diageo, it is bottled without an age statement at 40% ABV.
