How to enjoy it

  • Neat
  • With water
  • Highball

Start neat to appreciate the waxy, mouth-coating texture. A few drops of water open up the fruit. As a highball, the faint coastal salt comes through refreshingly.

Food pairing

Pan-fried white fish, seared scallops and hard cheeses.

Background & production

Made at Clynelish Distillery near Brora on the north-east coast of the Scottish Highlands. The original distillery was founded in 1819, and a new distillery was built next door in 1967. It is now owned by Diageo.

Clynelish malt is known for a slightly waxy texture and a hint of island-style salinity. It is also the core malt of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve.

The 14 Year Old is the distillery's core expression, bottled at 46% ABV.
