Chita

Japan / Aichi · Founded 1972

A grain whisky distillery using mainly corn. Its column stills produce several styles, from light to full-bodied.

History & character

Suntory's grain whisky distillery on the Chita Peninsula in Aichi. Established in 1972 jointly by the Suntory group and the Zen-Noh agricultural cooperative group, it has made grain whisky ever since, underpinning Suntory's blends.

Using continuous stills, it produces different styles of grain spirit — heavy, medium and clean — and matures them in casks of different woods and histories to create a wide range of grain whiskies.

It also gives its name to the single grain whisky Chita.
