Background & production
Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii began making whisky in Japan in 1923, and in 1929 released the country's first domestic whisky. Originally sold simply as 'Suntory Whisky', it became known as 'Shirofuda' (White Label) for its white label.
After the war it was nicknamed 'Shiro' by whisky lovers, and in 1964 the name was changed to the current 'White'. Made from malt and grain, it is bottled at 40%.
