Background & production

The brand began with the Gloag family's grocery and wine business in Perth, central Scotland. In 1896 Matthew Gloag created a blended whisky called 'Grouse Brand', and his daughter Philippa sketched the red grouse for the label. It became so popular that it was renamed The Famous Grouse on 12 August 1905.

Malts such as The Macallan and Highland Park are married with grain whiskies in oak casks for six months before bottling. The brand is now owned by Edrington.

It carries no age statement and is bottled at 40% ABV.
