Background & production
Chivas traces its roots to a grocery and wine merchant opened in Aberdeen in 1801. James Chivas joined in 1836 and later founded Chivas Brothers with his brother John. The Chivas Regal blend was created in 1909, and the brand is now part of Pernod Ricard.
Strathisla Distillery is described as the 'spiritual home' of Chivas, and its malt, alongside other Speyside malts, forms the backbone of the blend.
The 12 Year Old, blended from whiskies aged at least 12 years, is the core expression, bottled at 40% ABV.
