Ben Nevis
Scotland / West Highlands · Founded 1825
At Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. Owned by Nikka since 1989.
History & character
Founded in 1825 by 'Long John' McDonald at Fort William in the western Highlands, at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain. A second distillery, Nevis, was built nearby in 1878, and the two were later merged.
In 1955 new owners led by Joseph Hobbs installed a Coffey still, making Ben Nevis one of the first distilleries to produce malt and grain whisky on the same site.
Japan's Nikka Whisky has owned the distillery since 1989, and a visitor centre opened in 1991. The 10 Year Old is the core of its range.
