Tomintoul

Scotland / Speyside · Founded 1964

A 1960s distillery in the Glenlivet area of Speyside. Branded "the gentle dram", it makes soft, easy-drinking single malts.

History & character

Tomintoul lies in the Glenlivet area of Speyside, between Ballindalloch and the village of Tomintoul. It was founded in 1964 by whisky brokers Hay & Macleod and W. & S. Strong.

Two more stills were added in 1974, the same year it began bottling single malt. It is now owned by London-based Angus Dundee Distillers.

In 2009 it set a world record with the largest bottle of whisky, holding 105.3 litres of 14-year-old Tomintoul. The range is marketed as "the gentle dram" for its mild, well-balanced style.
