Glencadam

Scotland / Highlands · Founded 1825

Founded in 1825 in the ancient town of Brechin in eastern Scotland. A small distillery with one pair of stills, making a delicate, fruity spirit.

History & character

Glencadam is in Brechin, an old town in Angus on Scotland's east coast. Founded in 1825 by merchant George Cooper, it is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries.

It has just one wash still and one spirit still, and their distinctive angle is credited with its delicate spirit. Water is drawn from the River South Esk.

The distillery was mothballed in 2000 and revived when Angus Dundee bought it in 2003. Much of its spirit has gone into blends such as Ballantine's, but it now also releases single malts from 10 to 25 years old.
